Read and Write 1

 

Read and Write 1 uses pictures to encourages pupils to look at the page and make observations. They are asked to match objects, find the odd one out, identify pairs, colour and draw objects. The objects used are for example tools, food, animals and mobile phones. This makes the pages age neutral like all B Squared books.

Read and Write 2

 

Read and Write 2 introduces simple sentences and phrases with pictures. This shows pupil that ideas and concept can be shown as pictures and text and that the text conveys meaning that they need to understand. They are asked to illustrate sentences, match pictures and sentences, use adjectives and answer simple questions.

Read and Write 3

 

Read and Write 3 ask pupils to identify the properties of familiar objects, use collective vocabulary, solve puzzles, complete cloze procedures and answer simple questions. These exercises make them think about what they are observing and reading.

Read and Write 4

 

Read and Write 4 continues and extends the work of books 1 to 3 and introduces the idea that not everything can bee seen by looking at emotions. Questions are asked about the information given in short passages and pupils are given instructions they have to follow. The text is shown to have purpose.

Read and Write 5

 

Read and Write 5 asks pupils to extract information from pictures and text and relate the information to their own life and experiences. As well as multiple choice answers pupils are expected to read and respond to longer and more complex questions.

Read and Write 6

 

Read and Write 6 gives pupils information in a variety of genre including poetry, menus, product descriptions and reports. Many pages are supported by illustrations but many ask pupils to extract implicit and explicit information from text alone.
