They can be used to aid pupils in developing story ideas and progression in group or whole class brainstorming sessions. There are some story endings to help extend pupils. This book uses their interest to encourage pupils to plan character, place and sequence within their story writing. Through their own experience, contact with those already in the work place and from the television they have developed a range of concepts ( right or wrong ) that they can draw on to develop their writing skills. Pupils enjoy stories of ghosts and scary situations in stories. This book aims to use and exploit this interest in order to develop pupils writing skills. Stories and pictures from the unknown and outer space and of aliens and strange creatures interest many people and can grab a pupil’s interest. This can be used to develop understanding and extend creative writing. The creatures and situations are pure imagination and therefore pupils cannot “get it wrong” allowing them to relax and use their imagination in a creative and spontaneous manner. Poetry, prose, cloze procedures, sequencing and stimulating pictures make this a very attractive book.

These experiences help pupils develop the idea of cause and effect that are essential to developing a well structure believable story.
