This vitally important topic is covered through a range of materials including word searches, sentence building and story writing. The book encompasses crossing roads safely, reading road signs, and how to keep safe near railways. It also develops an understanding of how to safely enjoy a range of popular pursuits, such as skating, roller blading and cycling.

This workbook helps to underpin the idea that we have to balance our rights and responsibilities. It moves through defining responsibilities at different ages and for people in different roles. The difficult concepts of fairness, rules and decision making are covered through differentiated activities.

Emotional Health and Wellbeing

 

The importance of friendship and feeling good in relationships they have with others are addressed in this workbook. It helps extend pupils’ emotional vocabulary and reinforce how to behave in social dilemmas. Feelings are considered through face and body language to help pupils gauge other people’s emotions. Bullying is addressed through story writing and will enable pupils to reflect on the feelings of others.

Pupils can learn how to contribute to maintaining their local environment and look to help environmental matters on a global scale. Through activities about graffiti and litter, pupils are encouraged to think about the effect on their community. Topics such as pollution, saving water and recycling are covered using activities such as story writing, data handling, sentence building and comprehension.

Pupils can explore the roles of emergency workers to help them understand who they can ask for help. This workbook also covers how to ask for help and using a pay phone to dial 999. Various scenarios are included such as stranger danger, being lost, smelling gas and safety around railways. Various activities help pupils raise awareness of their physical safety and how this may impact on others.

Pupils develop their understanding of different types of relationships, from friendships to families, boy and girlfriends to marriage. The importance of hygiene is covered through differentiated activities. The physical changes, which begin to occur in puberty, are sensitively considered, as is the process of conception through to how babies develop and are born.

This book helps pupils to develop an understanding of drugs, alcohol and tobacco so that they can make more informed choices. Scenarios are included to help develop the skill of risk assessment and decision making. This workbook contains activities to reinforce how to deal with the many dangers that can be found in the home. They include medicines, electricity, equipment in kitchens and bathrooms. Pupils are able to develop their understanding of keeping safe within their own level of experience.

We all need to be aware of how we feel, react to and affect the actions of others. This books helps pupils understand what bullying is and how we can avoid being bullied or becoming a bully. It also helps pupils build their self esteem and realise that they have positive qualities and value.
